Kamala Harris

Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. She is the first woman to be elected vice president and is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. She is a senator and former senator from California. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. In 2010 Harris was elected Attorney General of California and re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator who fought for health care and federal de-scheduling of cannabis. A pathway towards citizenship for migrants who aren't legal. The DREAM Act bans assault weapons and progressive tax reform. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
